Have you been working as hard as ever as an essential worker during the coronavirus pandemic? Or, have you been cooped up at home self isolating? Either way are your legs feeling the pain from being overworked or under exercised?
Have you ever heard the ole saying ‘prevention is better than the cure?’ I had but never really practiced it, even though I’m a nurse. I used to take Panadol or other pain killers to heal my body, feet and leg pain that would start mid shift.
And I tried everything...... Expensive shoes, spongey inner soles, thicker socks. Even with all of that, by the end of my 10 hour shift my legs, feet and body were all throbbing. You know what I'm talking about don't you?
So if you're anything like me we either ask our loved ones for a massage or go spend money on professional massages that we shouldn't. And yeah they feel good but it doesn't fix the problem does it? You go back to work where the pain starts all over again.
The problem with this whole situation is these are things you do when you're already in pain, what about dodging the pain before it even starts.
I obviously new about medical compression socks because I recommended them to my patients but didn't realise there was compression for work. I was complaining to my work mate the other day about my pain she said "Idiot, why aren't you wearing compression socks?" So I bought myself some.
The first time I wore them I got through an entire shift without pain and had more energy. My partner no longer has me nagging them for a rub or I'm not spending all my money on massages. I even sleep better. It turns out I was an idiot because now I wear them every single day.
Not only are they now preventing my pain, they can also help prevent varicose veins.
