Compression socks; what are they, who are they for and how can they help me?
I am sure when you hear the term 'compression socks' you think of those; far from sexy, ill fitting, heelless, white socks that they throw you to wear when you're laid up in a hospital bed for more than a day. However, there is so much more to this product than first comes to mind, compression socks can help not only those laid up in bed, but also athletes, hard working professionals and tight toed travellers who need to rest their weary legs.
The science behind compression socks is simple. They put pressure on your legs in order to help your blood vessels work better. With this, the arteries that take oxygen-rich blood to your muscles can relax and blood can flow freely, and voila! Veins get a boost in pushing blood back up to your heart.
Through this simple science compression socks can thereby keep your legs from getting tired and achy. They can also ease swelling in your feet and ankles and help prevent and treat spider and varicose veins. They may even stop you from feeling light-headed or dizzy when you stand up after being seated for too long. On a massive side-note plus point, because the blood keeps moving, it's harder for it to pool in your veins and make a clot.
So, what I am trying to tell you is; whether you're sitting or standing, health conscious, or aesthetically vain, strapping on a pair of compression socks could be just the ticket to the legs of your dreams!
But hey, if worse comes to worse... Did someone say sock puppets!?
